The Fabric of a Region

To understand a region, it is necessary to pay attention to the various threads that affect the quality of life and connectivity. The August 30th edition of the Washington Post contains stories about the affluence of the Northern Virginia Counties. Another section addressed the community problems faced by suburbanites. Good community planning requires sensitivity to the threads that are being woven into this fabric. This requires prospective. Prospectives are built with several vantage points and vanishing points. The textbook on prospective drawing used by the Notre Dame School of Architecture describe vantage points and vanishing points. In order to understand how communities function, perspective requires more than one point of view. The media sometimes is expensive enough to offer multiple views. Occasionally, it includes the editorial comments of an individual or organization. The current discussion over establishing a population cap on the Future of Reston will limit the pool of threads that can be drawn on to work, play, and serve in a balanced manner in the community.
