Celebrating the Green Jersey and wearing ring

Holy Toledo!

The country’s premiere planned community, Reston Virginia has established a strong connectivity with holy ToledoCandace Stewart, a Toledo native and a member of the support team that assists Patrick Kane in Reston, Virginia transporting him to YMCA fitness classes, helps maintain his connectivity after a debilitating stroke.  When Candace returned from her recent visit to Toledo she brought a copy of the Bend of the River magazine which contained a photograph of the hotel at Cedar Point, Ohio.  Mr. Kane noted that his father was the manager of that hotel when Knute Rockney brought the Notre Dame football team for summer programs.  This was done at the time that the forward pass had become a legal football play.  So the players at the Cedar point resort worked as lifeguards and used the beach to develop the plays they would use to execute the forward pass.  This play was first used in a college game when Notre Dame played Army.

Because Mr. Kane’s father was from Cleveland, Ohio he was befriended by the Cleveland born four horseman of Notre Dame.  When Mr. Kane was choosing a college his father suggested that he consider the University of Notre Dame, a college that he visited as a guest .

Following Patrick’s graduation he began his professional career with a group of planners in South Bend Indiana.  One of their first clients was the city of Toledo Ohio.  The City Planning Associates firm was founded by the brother of  Congressman John Brademas who was a close associate of Congressman Ludlow Ashley.  The firm was actively involved in HUD programs which was one of Lud’s committees.

When Patrick moved to the Washington Metropolitan area to promote housing in this region he located in Reston VA.  While attending mass another parishioner Peter Cannon noted his Notre Dame ring and introduced himself as the President of the Washington Notre Dame alumni Association.  This network of friends expanded quickly and a Toledo resident was identified.  This gentleman Joe Jasinski served as Lud Ashley’s Admin assistant.  Additional connectivity was created by the fact that Mr. Kane’s classmate was a member of the McIntyre family from Monroe Michigan.  This family also recruited Barney Morris for their radio station.  This connectivity is continuing because this document is being prepared with the assistance of Germaine Jasinski who was a babysitter for some of Mr. Kane’s children.

Patrick Kane’s father Harold used to entertain with stories about the Ohio Detroit shortcut straight across the lake in the winter months with an occasional SOS distress call to rescue autos while riding ice islands.  The connection has proven fruitful.  This document will conclude with a phone call from 1600 Wainwright Drive in Reston to White House Country Manor Nursing home in Whitehouse, OH.

The connectivity continues with the Notre Dame alumni in RestonVA.  Patrick’s firm was KRS Associates formed by William Schaffer and John Rossi all classmates in the Notre Dame School of  Architecture.  Kane continues to draw on his connectivity to compensate for his stroke caused disabilities.  He now maintains a network of helping volunteers who wear Notre Dame rings.  Another Notre Dame element of the Reston Connection was former Reston resident Joe Theismann, who used to join Kane at Easter brunches.

Toledo native Candace Stewart is part of the driving support network.  A copy of the this document was on the table when Amanda was receiving tutoring from her former special ed teacher who read this document and stated that she was also born in Toledo.  Holy Toledo!
